Quirkiness and the Printed Image: Lecture by Nigel Ip

This talk will highlight the material and technical qualities of printmaking, drawing attention to unique and unexpected features of prints since the 16th century. From cracked printing plates to masterful manipulations of line, audiences will gain a deeper understanding of the art form's physical processes and how such quirks contributed to major innovations in printmaking.

The Speaker
 

Nigel Ip is a freelance critic and art historian based in London, UK. A regular contributor to Print Quarterly and Trois Crayons, his reviews have also featured in ars longaMuseum Bookstore, and SAVANT Art Magazine. His writings fuse academic breadth with simple language, always with the aim of making art history accessible to all.

As a specialist in Italian Renaissance art and works on paper, Nigel's previous work has included cataloguing collections at the National Maritime Museum and Fusilier Museum London, client services in museums and commercial galleries, assisting exhibition projects, and delivering talks to diverse audiences.

He runs the Instagram account @nigelip, reviewing exhibitions, art fairs, and cultural events in London and abroad. He has collaborated with brands like Classic Art London, Own Art, and BRUSHWRK.
