Dado was deeply affected by the death of fellow Daniel Cordier artist Bernard Requichot in 1961. On his visit to the US in 1962, he came across The Farm by Surrealists artist Joan Miro. In 1962-63, he produced his ‘The Large Farm’ as a tribute to Requichot which featured a number of warped, humanoid figures. Several other drawings from this time period, done in ink and colour, feature these grotesque bulging figures.
